Let’s Get Personal

Make it stand out

Naming a child is a great responsibility. On the one hand, you don’t want to choose a name so trendy or popular that your child will be one of seven in their class. On the other hand, you don’t want to choose a name so unique that your child or their future teachers cannot spell it.

Many of us thought about these things when we named our children, but there is another consideration no one warned us about—the dreaded truck stop. When you’re on a road trip, there is nothing more convenient than that all-in-one pit stop. We can fill up the gas tank, empty the bladders, grab a bite of food, and purchase snacks for later. But there are these towers of personalized disappointment at almost any truck stop. Displays of keychains, ink pens, miniature license plates, and various other personalized baubles. They are there with every name you could imagine—well, every name but that truly unique name you gave your child.

As a loving parent, who doesn’t want to see their child’s hopes crushed, you do your best to steer them to the other side of the store. But inevitably, they will find the dreaded display of trinkets, they will search every name looking for theirs, and they will walk away disappointed that their name wasn’t on the display . . . again. Trust me, two out of three of my children were uniquely named.

I realize it would be impossible for every truck stop or tourist-trap souvenir shop to carry every child’s name and all the various spellings. So how do we combat this problem?

We have to get personal! Doesn’t Kona deserve a personalized keychain just as much as Karen? Bailey may find a personalized bookmark, but what about Baylee, Bailie, Bayleigh, or Baelee? Shouldn’t they have personalized bookmarks, too? Doesn’t Peresephone need an ink pen with her name on it? Shouldn’t Jessea have her own journal without settling for one that says Jessica? The answer to all these questions is yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! 100% Yes!

If you love someone with a uniquely fabulous, but hard-to-find, name, let me help you help them. I can laser engrave their name, or a personal message from you, onto a wide selection of pens, pencils, keychains, luggage tags, bookmarks, or bottle openers. For the sake of all the children who have walked away from that display with a disappointed face, let’s get personal!

Leave a comment below with your uniquely named person or person with a uniquely spelled name. On January 31, 2026, I’ll choose one person to send a personalized pen or keychain to.
