My Photo Album

I learned two important lessons while making these oak serving trays:

1. Do not use your grandmother’s antique dining room table as a workbench, and if you do, put a spoil board under the spot where you are drilling.

2. Do not drop three of them and try and catch them with your foot. Oak is heavy.

When we moved to our fixer-upper six years ago, the deck was LESS THAN STABLE to say the least. After removing the upper layer of wood (or should I say splinters), we found a layer cedar. I have enjoyed repurposing it into several project, one of which was this prayer wall.

Sometimes I like a challenge, but I’m frugal (or cheap). Thankfully, I found this vintage table at an estate sale for $5. Lots of wood filler, sandpaper, some DIY paint, white wax, and the American Mills JRV stencil  was all it took. I thought I would stage it with my grandparents wedding picture since that was the year they were married. Aren’t they so cute? Oh, did I mention they were also married on 5-29?

These word blocks could literally be adapted to any occasion, or choose a word or phrase that will be an inspiration to you.

Cut a 2 x 6 into squares, sand, paint, and stencil.
For these we used acrylic paint from Hobby Lobby and an alphabet stencil from Walmart.
If you want to see the grain of the wood through the paint, mix the paint with water for a paint wash.

These pint-sized mason jars made nice table decorations for our Galentine’s event at church. All it took was a couple of coats of chalk paint, a little light distressing, some twine, and a sprig of hydrangea.

This simple, but elegant, Christmas décor was fun to make. A 2 x 4 board, some 45 degree cuts, a little sandpaper, and some paint is all you need. I used the IOD typesetting décor stamp  and the Christmas balls JRV stencil, but you could achieve a similar effect with printed text and some graphite paper, or if you feel adventurous try it freehand.

Great bones but battle scarred, this old chair was begging to be rescued from our local ReStore. I painted it to match the studio and reupholstered the seat, now it has a new life and new home.

The shop is my happy place.
